Treadmill. Speedwork. “Fun.”
The high yesterday was a very hot and sunny 84 degrees!
I’m definitely not telling you this to brag. I am telling you this because 84* is TOO HOT for running and I need to complain to someone who will understand!
I was able to head out a little earlier than I normally do, and I just wasn’t interested in running in 78* + 75% humidity so I headed to the gym to use a treadmill.
I know lots of runners like doing speedwork on the treadmill because you can control the pace. I really don’t like it because my treadmill shakes when I run at anything faster than 10 min pace and I get scared!
I had a fartlek on the plan and my coach wanted me to do the fast portions at 9:45 – 10:30 pace. I can hit 9:45 pace when I’m running outdoors, but on the treadmill I have to stick closer to 10 min pace to feel safe.
Splits – 13:51, 12:21, 12:26, 13:48.
It wasn’t that long ago that my fartlek miles were in the upper 11-min range and I want to get back to that asap! I’ll take those 12:20 paces since I’m coming off of a two week break, but it’s time to get down to business!
I most definitely need to get over this 10-min-pace-treadmill phobia because I am sure I will be spending a lot more time on the treadmill as we get closer to the summer.

After doing my thing on the ‘mill I did a short-ish strength workout – chest, shoulders, back.
And then I showered and curled up with a glass of hot tea and my favorite cat.
Oh yeah, Adam was there too :). We watched the Heat game and relaxed.
I have no idea why but Thursdays are one of my favorite days of the week, so Wednesday nights are pretty good because I know Thursday is right around the corner!
I think I like Thursdays because I enjoy the anticipation of the weekend. Once the weekend actually gets here I just start counting down the hours until work starts again.
… Wow that sounds so depressing! haha
Do you do that too? On Saturdays I’m always like, “this time tomorrow we’ll be so close to the end of the weekend!” I need to just enjoy the day and not worry about counting down the hours until Monday!
