I can hardly believe it is almost Thanksgiving! I’m pretty excited about it because I love stuffing and mashed potatoes!
I’m a little bummed because I really wanted to do a Turkey Trot this year but there isn’t one near my mom’s house – I would know, I check 10x a day.
It’s okay, I’ll do my own little Turkey Trot on this pretty trail near my mom’s house all by myself. I recently found out that one of my fave ultrarunners (Timothy Olson) just did a 50K near my mom’s house!!! I so wish I would have known. I would have been there in a heartbeat to volunteer at an aid station!
Here’s Timothy and his wife Krista on the trails near my mom’s place:

Speaking of ultras, I am planning to do my first 50K next year (says the girl who hasn’t even run a half yet), and will probably do it at a race near my mom’s house. Maybe I will do the race that Timothy Olson just did!
Here is my thought process on 2014 at this point:
- Feb 2014 – Disney Princess 1/2 with a friend
- Spring/Summer – Work on getting faster
- Fall – Marathon
- Winter – 50K
I’m thinking about putting my name down for the Portland Marathon, but I don’t know if it will fall too late in the year for me to get in a 50K too.
I just recently told my running coach that I want to do a 50K next year and she didn’t laugh at me… which I thought was kind of nice of her : )
Putting a 50K on the calendar means I really want to focus on getting faster next year so it doesn’t take me a billion hours to finish the race.
I have had the Disney Princess Half planned for a long time and I am excited to do it with a friend of mine. But after that my focus will be less on distance and more on speed until it’s time to start planning for the fall marathon.
I guess none of this planning matters if I fail to finish the half marathon in November … but I am planning on finishing! : )
Have you begun thinking about 2014 races/goals yet?
Will you tackle a new distance next year?
– I am dreaming BIG with the 50K!
Wow! What a goal! I say go for it. And the Portland Marathon is definitely on my bucket list. It is supposed to be a great race, even in the rain!

Yes, I’ve heard so many good things about it! It’s on so many top marathon lists. I heard they sell out really fast so I need to make my decision soon.
I love your big dreams 🙂
I’m doing the Turkey Trot I did last year, a lovely but challenging 10k, with my sister, her bf, and Matt!

I seriously keep thinking about doing that 10K, but I think it would throw things off with my mom. This is the first Thanksgiving since my stepdad passed so I really want to be around all morning to keep her mind off of things. I’ll be doing the 10K with you in spirit though!
