Twenty Six Point Two

As the weather warms up and we move closer to the summer I’ve got one important thing on my mind: marathon training!

I’m excited to start building my mileage again soon-ish; there’s really nothing like the reward of watching your weekly long run increase in distance and knowing that you are DOING IT!

Chicago is, of course, my capstone race of the year. It will also be my first big race of the 2015-2016 season which runs from September through February for me.

Here’s a peek at my racing schedule as it stands so far:

  • September 27: Optime 5K
  • October 11: Chicago Marathon
  • November 15: Fort Lauderdale Half Marathon
  • December 13: Best Damn Race Cape Coral Half Marathon
  • December 20: Jingle Bell Jog 5K
  • January 24: Miami Half Marathon
  • February 14: A1A Half Marathon

I highly doubt I will stray from this schedule very much. Last year I was a bit too ambitious and thought I’d do about two or more races per month, but that’s really more than I can handle. Mostly because I cannot make myself get up at 4am two weekends in a row — and that’s about when you need to get up for the super early race start times we have in FL! 😉

I was wavering on BDR Cape Coral Half on December 13th, but then I saw that Ali chose BDR Cape Coral as her second full marathon and knew I had to sign up so I could be there to cheer her on at the finish!

As excited as I am to start marathon training myself, I’m also really excited that almost everyone in “my” marathon crew from last year will be in training again this summer!

If you’re not already reading these running blogs, I cannot recommend them enough:

Joining the fall marathon crew this year:

Last year when I was making my way through training for Portland all by myself, reading other running blogs was so helpful. It was great to know that I wasn’t alone when flying through one long run only to have the next feel like hell. It’s also always really nice to share tips and advice with other people who get it and are going through it at the same time.

Ali, Hanna, Cheryl and I were all first time marathoners last year (Cheryl had already done a 50K). I kind of think of us as the freshman marathon class of 2014 and I’m excited to head into year two together!

How cheesy is this post? I swear running is the only thing in this world (besides Cecil) that makes me all emotional and gushy!

Gahhhhhhh! 🙂

PS: If I left you off the 2015 fall marathon list by accident, please let me know in the comments or on Twitter and I will add you!

Should we start a Facebook group for summer training/fall marathon chatter?!?!

Did you or someone you know get in to Chicago via the lottery yesterday?

What’s your big race for this fall if it’s not a marathon?

Aaaa your race schedule is getting me excited to train too lol! I’m finally back on the training train after having a baby and signed up for my first full (Miami in Jan)! I’m also doing the ft laud half in November and the A1A half in Feb But now you have me thinking of the BDR in Cape Coral too! Jeez this is so addicting

    • May 2, 2015 / 11:38 pm

Ohhh how exciting that you’re going to do the full in January! I’ll be there for the half!

I think Cape Coral will be nice for a little change of scenery without having to drive too far. LMK if you sign up and maybe we can plan a meetup with a couple of the other run blog community peeps who will be there! 🙂

  2. April 29, 2015 / 6:23 am

I just told my husband about the Cape Coral half (his parents have a house there!) so maybe we will try to do it! That time of the year is busy but if we don’t got away for Thanksgiving its definitely a possibility. Love the race schedule- its so exciting that you getting ready to start training!

    • May 2, 2015 / 11:39 pm

That would be great if you could squeeze Cape Coral in to your plans! LMK if you decide to do it. It would be great if we could all meet up before or after the race!

  3. April 29, 2015 / 7:35 am

this is so exciting!! I’m doing my first marathon in November (Richmond). Some sort of group chat would be awesome! Can’t wait to follow along with your training… You will do great’

  4. April 29, 2015 / 7:35 am

    Nice race schedule!

I started following your blog and Hanna’s blog last fall when I was training for my first marathon as well…except in the week before my taper I tore a calf muscle and ended up deferring my entry to 2015. So, fingers crossed, this fall I’ll finally get to run my first marathon.

    • May 2, 2015 / 11:41 pm

Fingers are crossed!! I’m going to start the Facebook Group as it gets closer to the summer and will let you know in case you would like to join it 🙂

  5. April 29, 2015 / 9:14 am

Ok, ok, ok… It’s done. I signed up. I’m doing it. 🙂 I think I’ll need a facebook group to express my worries in. lol See ya in Chicago!!!!

    • May 2, 2015 / 11:41 pm

I am so happy you signed up! I will let you know as soon as I start the Facebook Group. I’ll probably put it up as we get a little closer to the summer 🙂

  6. April 29, 2015 / 9:16 am

I thought I’d be more worn out after running a 50 mile race last Saturday, but the trails didn’t wear my legs out nearly as much as the road marathons I’ve run so I may be signing up for another race sooner than I had thought. Have fun training for Chicago!

  7. April 29, 2015 / 9:17 am

Boy do I wish I could plan races! I just don’t trust my body right now. 🙁 My friend Tracy got in Chicago via lottery. That would be such an awesome race to run. Everyone I know who has run it highly recommends it. I think your Facebook group idea is really good!

    • April 29, 2015 / 12:35 pm

I am pig backing off Megan’s comment. I just don’t trust my body, I am nervous to try again at this point. I keep talking about it, hoping i will just talk myself into it. The real issue, can I keep my bones strong 🙁
I am excited for you all though! As always,I enjoy following along storing up information for future use!!

      • May 2, 2015 / 11:43 pm

I hope you give it a go again, Karen! Your body is quite strong and I think what happened last time was a freak occurrence and won’t happen again. If the marathon bug bites you again I hope you scratch the itch and go for it!

  8. April 29, 2015 / 9:43 am

Awww I love this post, and I love our little Class of 2014!! I was new to blogging when I started training and I’m so glad I found everyone. It was especially awesome meeting you Kristina since we were doing our first marathons on the same day! I look forward to another summer of e-training together and cheering each other on!!

I also am going to cut back on the racing this season. My Spring is pretty full, but after June I only have 4 big races (1 10 miler, 2 halfs, 1 full) for the rest of 2015. I’m sure I’ll throw a 5K or two in there somewhere. It’s just getting too expensive and time consuming to do all this racing, especially if it doesn’t serve a purpose in my training and long term goals.

  9. April 29, 2015 / 9:51 am

I feel like the black sheep not running the Chicago marathon #AwkwardFriend

But I could not agree more, it is sort of kind of the best thing ever to have others training ‘alongside’ you. The running community really just where it’s at.

  10. April 29, 2015 / 10:37 am

Nice schedule! I love how the “seasons” differ for everyone 🙂 SOOO excited for Chicago (then I will be so excited for Miami haha) of course MCM inbetween. Thanks for including me on your list – as I’ve been catching up seems like this is the year of Chicago! Great list and can’t wait to add new bloggers to my feed.

    • April 29, 2015 / 1:16 pm

Oh I’ll join the FB too!

  11. April 29, 2015 / 11:18 am

Woohoo! Honestly, right now, I am most excited for a BREAK. I won’t have to start training for NYCM until the mid- to late-summer, and until then, I am officially in my “off season,” haha. I feel like I’ve been training for marathons back-to-back for the past two years (oh, yeah, that’s probably because I have, LOL). But I’m super excited for you, and look forward to following along with your training!

    • May 2, 2015 / 11:44 pm

Girlfriend, you deserve that break! You have been a racing and martial arts machine the last few months! ENJOY IT! 🙂

  12. April 29, 2015 / 12:43 pm

This Fall I’m going to be running my first 10k! I know it’s not a huge distance but I’m working on building up my races slowly.. I’m hopeful that I can run my first 1/2 marathon sometime in the spring on 2016 and hopefully I can run a full in the Fall of 2016! I watched along with Boston last week and I and HOOKED on the idea of a full Marathon! One day I’ll make it to the 26.2 club! :] I know you’ll do great in Chicago!

    • May 2, 2015 / 11:46 pm

That’s so exciting Aubrey! I did the same thing and slowly built up my distances. I did a 5K in the spring but didn’t run my first half until the fall and then didn’t run a full until the following fall. I think it helps the body protect itself against injury to build up slowly!

  13. April 29, 2015 / 12:55 pm

This post is awesome!! So glad that you have such a great marathon training group! I think y’all should definitely start a FB group to keep everyone motivated.

  14. April 29, 2015 / 1:14 pm

Awww I have the warm and fuzzies right now!

I’m super excited to train virtually with you again and would LOVE a facebook group to chat about our progress etc! It would help me keep my marathon word vomit off my regular personal page haha!

  15. April 29, 2015 / 2:06 pm

Wow sap city over here, what is happening lol. J/k…having support through any training is hugely helpful especially at a new distance. You can’t get enough support and tips. So great to see so many bloggers training together.

  16. April 29, 2015 / 6:17 pm

Kristina I am so excited because Matthew and I both got into the Chicago Marathon! I have never run that race before but I would totally love to meet up with you when we are there!!! How do you get onto the fall marathon running crew? That sounds like such a cool group of friends 🙂

    • May 2, 2015 / 11:46 pm

SO EXCITING!!!! Such a big group of us will be at Chicago this year! I can’t wait! It’s gonna be a party!

  17. April 29, 2015 / 7:18 pm

Not cheesy at all! I love it! So excited to follow you in your training!

  18. April 30, 2015 / 12:09 am

You are soooo sweet!!! I didn’t get in to Chicago 🙁 BUT I decided to do my first charity run so you’ll see me there in October!!!!!!!! Can’t wait to squeeze you!! <3

  19. April 30, 2015 / 6:52 am

This is so exciting that we are all doing another fall marathon together! I am excited and nervous…I suppose it should be easier this time, yet I also now know how much the training takes out of me, so I am nervous about that part!!

  20. April 30, 2015 / 3:14 pm

So exciting! I’m looking forward to following along with you, Hanna, Ali and Kerry this fall. I’m not doing a full this fall. I’m taking the extra time “off” and won’t run another marathon until next year’s LA marathon (February). I do have a goal half marathon in November though, and I’m super excited for that. I’ll start training for it at the end of July.

  21. May 1, 2015 / 4:47 pm

I think I’m already following most of the blogs you listed, but there are a few new to me ones too! Awesome!!

My next full will probably be LA in February but I’ve added a MCM to my bucket. MCM 2016…. 🙂

  22. May 1, 2015 / 10:29 pm

Thank you for the Blog love!!!!!!!! I’m excited to start my mileage build-up too! We need to get a training run in together. We live too close to not make an effort to do that 🙂
Once you figure out your schedule let’s coordinate a run 😉

    • May 2, 2015 / 11:48 pm

I am going to start training the last week of June – when does your training plan start?
