VEGAS BABY!

Can you believe it’s January 2nd already? I was lucky enough to end the year on a high note and wanted to share my trip to Vegas today, starting with a vlog of the day Adam and I saw Britney’s show!

(If you’re not already subscribed to my YouTube channel you can subscribe for free – thank you!)

We flew into Vegas on Tuesday night and saw Britney on Wednesday after a crazy day of walking all over The Strip. According to Adam’s FitBit we walked over 12 miles that day – definitely the most I have moved in a very long time!!!

Our legs were so sore by the end of the day but in a satisfying way because it meant we did a lot. Seeing Britney’s show was the highlight of the day. She did all of her hits so the crowd could sing along!

As much fun as we had, slipping into our bed that night felt so good. We stayed at The Aria which is our favorite resort in Vegas; their beds are so comfortable!

Adam and I have stayed at so many different resorts on The Strip over the last decade (Caesar’s Palace, MGM Grand, Paris, etc.) but The Aria is the one we keep coming back to. It’s one of the newer resorts and it’s less gambling focused and instead features a nice spa, upscale restaurants, a very nice fitness center, shopping and more. Of course there is gambling too.

This was the first trip to Vegas that Adam and I actually didn’t gamble at all. Usually we’ll play a little Blackjack and Poker but the weather was so nice outside that we really wanted to spend our time walking around. It’s not every day that us Floridians experience temperatures in the 60s during the day!

Each night we booked ourselves into a show. We saw Britney on Wednesday and then we took an Uber over to see Penn & Teller’s magic show on Thursday at The Rio. This was our third time seeing the show – we LOVE it! Every time we see the show it’s been changed at least a little bit.

This time they had everyone in the crowd take four cards at random before the show started. During the show they had us rip all four cards in half and then shuffle the pieces without looking.

Somehow at the end of all the shuffling and then a game of “he loves me, he loves me not” to get rid of most of the card pieces we ended up with just two card pieces left… and they formed one full card! I don’t know how that happened but it’s so cool!

On Friday night we went to see Cirque du Soleil’s Mystรฉre at Treasure Island. If you’ve never seen a Cirque du Soleil show they all contain aerial acrobatics, dramatic dance, regular acrobatics and more.

Adam and I have seen every Cirque show out in Vegas besides The Beatles Love and Michael Jackson One. My favorite is O, Adam’s favorite is Kร€ but both of us agree Mystรฉre is our second favorite. We were worried it wouldn’t be good because it’s considered a legacy show but it was incredible!

After a third night of fun, it was time to return back to The Aria and pack. We had to check out of the resort at 1pm on Saturday, but our flight wasn’t until 10pm so we just hung out and watched sports in one of the lounges. Before we knew it the time had come to board the plane home.

I was sad that the trip was ending but excited to get home to see Cecil. He was at my mom’s while we were gone where I am sure he was spoiled but I think we can all agree there is no place like home!

Have you been to Vegas? What’s your favorite show/resort/thing to do?

I watched your VLOG yesterday and enjoyed it a lot! I was wondering what you thought of Britney lip syncing, so I am glad you addressed it! How many shows does she do there a week? Don’t you think it’s amazing that Broadway performers can do 7-8 shows per week and they never lip sync!? (No shade on Britney, I LOVE MADONNA and I know she lip syncs all the time.)

I feel like these days, you don’t even have to be a good singer to be famous and have famous songs. It’s more important to look the part, have a good song written for you, and have everything all cleaned up and spic and span vocally in the studio. Then you can just go out and lip sync and sing to tracks. (Again, not shading Britney because I go back to my love of Madonna and she is NOT a singer. I mean, I like her voice as it is unique, but it is very thin, she doesn’t have a big range, etc.)

We went to Vegas once and it was only for a night as we were doing our big trip from Denver to San Diego. We left The Grand Canyon and drove to the Hoover Dam but didn’t have time for a tour. We would’ve liked to do that. Did you guys ever venture out there? Then we drove to Vegas and it took FOREVER to check in. There was a huge line. I wanted to swim before the pool closed at 6pm, and even though we were in line to check in around 3:30, we didn’t get to our room until 5:30. It really annoyed me. We spent the night walking around but we did not like it at all. It was so crowded and smoky, and I got sad seeing the homeless people and pets. It was definitely cool to see the lights and the Bellagio fountain show but we did NOT like Vegas. We left the next morning to drive through the desert to San Diego!

In retrospect, I think we would’ve liked Vegas if we did it differently. If we had flown there and stayed two nights and seen shows, I think we would’ve liked it. We were just smack dab in the middle of a “go go go” vacation and Vegas was this HUGE change from all the things we had done outdoor-sy so far. I would definitely go back and try it again sometime. I would looooooooove to see Cirque’s Michael Jackson show. That would be so awesome.

It’s incredible that Broadway performers can do that many shows and never lip sync!

The reason I have NEVER cared that Britney lip syncs is that I know there is no way she could dance the way she does if she was singing live and I like watching her dance. NYSNC danced a lot and sang live, but the person singing the solo didn’t dance much. I just don’t think it’s a possibility. When I saw Celine live I expected her to sing because she doesn’t really dance, but for Britney I want to see her dance so I don’t care that she’s not singing live.

We thought about doing a tour of the Grand Canyon/Hoover Dam this time but it just didn’t work out. I definitely want to do that next time, especially when my leg is fully healed and I don’t have to worry about it at all! After walking around all day Tuesday my leg leg was super pinchy where the stitches still are.

The smoke in Vegas is definitely annoying (was the same when we were in Paris which shocked me); it’s everywhere and sets off both Adam and my allergies. The first time you experience it I think it’s really off-putting but once you expect it to be there it’s slightly less annoying.

This is going to sound horrible, but I’ve become somewhat desensitized to seeing homeless people since I moved to South Florida. Before I moved here I rarely saw any homeless people, but now I see them every time I leave my house. When I first moved here I gave money to every single homeless person I saw, but eventually I realized I was going to go broke doing that and now I just donate to our local shelters. It’s horrible to become desensitized to something so heartbreaking. I feel cruel saying it.

I agree that Vegas is something you have to be somewhat mentally prepared for. Adam’s dad and step-mom also made a quick one-night stop in Vegas after going to the Grand Canyon a couple years ago and had the same experience as you and Paul.

What a great lineup of things to do! I think you covered every thing that I think of when I picture a trip there. I have been to Vegas twice, but have never seen any shows there. I will have to next time! I’m not a big gambler but I did have fun learning to play Craps.

YES you have to! I highly recommend any of the Cirque shows – they are great for the whole family. Except for Zumanity which is their adult show… which I somehow totally missed when I bought tickets. When the performers came out with no tops on I was like OMG O_O! Adam was like “whoa somehow I had no idea you were into these kind of shows” LOL!

This is so cool!! When I went to Las Vegas, they were building Aria, so that whole area was just a huge construction site.

I loved watching the Britney videos on Instagram!! How awesome!! We saw her performance on the New Years Rocking Eve, she was amazing!! I hope to one day see her live. She lip-syncs, but whatever she is a performer and still puts on an amazing show.

When I went to Las Vegas I was pregnant and spent my days either by the pool, or walking the strip, that was my favorite thing to do there, walk all over the place and the shopping.
