Vegas in a Nutshell

Now that I’ve gotten some sleep I can finally think about Vegas again without getting angry! : )

There’s not a whole lot of running in this post, so feel free to just skim the pictures to get the gist!

The Resort

The best part of every Vegas trip for me is deciding on which resort to stay at! This time we selected the Aria.

Photo: facebook/aria

I didn’t get a great outdoor photo, so here’s one from Aria’s Facebook Page.

Adam and I arrived in Vegas on Friday morning and treated ourselves to black car service (<<this was awesome) which took us from the airport to the resort.

This place was was super modern. When we walked in the doors to our room on the first day, the window curtains automatically opened and the TV popped on! Now that’s service!

(I have a video of the automatic curtains but Adam says the F word really loudly in it , so I probably won’t post it, haha.)

We could control everything in the room from the curtains, to every light (including the bathroom lights), to the air conditioning and more right from the TV or this little tablet they include on your nightstand.

My pictures are all kind of off kilter from this trip, no idea what I was doing!

During all of our trips to Vegas we’ve stayed at Casar’s Palace, MGM Grand, Paris and now the Aria. If you are ever planning a trip and want some info on the hotels just let me know : ) I would have to say Aria has been my favorite so far!

The Events

This trip was really all about Adam. This fall he’s coming with me to Portland for my marathon and that trip is all about me, so he definitely deserved this one!

Adam trains in mixed martial arts (MMA) and has been a fan of the UFC since it’s inception. Our weekend in Vegas was all about the UFC — we attended the Fan Expo on Saturday, watched the pay-per-view on Saturday night and went to the TUF Finale on Sunday.

unnamed (14).jpg

The organization has grown so much over the last 10 years. Just a couple of years ago we attended the Fan Expo in Houston and it was much smaller.

I did get to see my favorite fighter, Georges St. Pierre (GSP) in person which was cool!

unnamed (15).jpg

^ GSP is a seriously talented athlete, and even though I’m not really into MMA I can recognize his talent and strength.

Game recognizes game. hahahahah!

Adam scored us some pretty nice seats for the TUF Finale (3rd row!!!!) which was super cool. We were sitting with the families of the fighters!

unnamed (16).jpg

Even though I only knew who two of the fighters were the whole night, it was fun to be treated like a VIP. Adam said we mustn’t let it go to our heads though since we’re really AOP. Average Ordinary People : )

Most of our weekend was spent shuffling back and forth between our resort and Mandalay Bay which was perfectly okay with me since my favorite burger place in the world, Burger Bar, is inside Mandalay!

(Pro tip: order the white BBQ sauce and thank me later… also, if you’re GF they have a GF bun!)

No pictures from Burger Bar since I’m weird about photographing food at restaurants.

I do have a photo of this kitty though from MGM Grand:

Whenever I see big cats I am always shocked at how much they remind me of house cats.

You know, except for those huge teeth that can bite through a gigantic chew toy like the one above whereas Cecil’s dainty self will only eat super soft pâté (and treats).

You think I’m joking, but I’m serious. Cecil will turn his nose up to a medium or firm pâté every day of the week.

Adam thinks this is proof for why we can’t have kids — they would be super spoiled and highly irritating to others! Also, it probably costs a lot more money to spoil a child than a cat which means we would end up bankrupt ;D

The Airport

Well, as you know by now, I spent plenty of time inside of McCarran airport.

I can tell you exactly what each gift shop sells because I must have visited each one 10 times.

In case you were wondering, this is what my it’s-2-am-and-I’ve-been-here-for-15-hours-face looks like.

unnamed (21).jpg

That’s also what a $4 hot tea looks like. Seriously. A cup of hot water and a couple of tea leafs for $4. Price gouging at the airport is real.

Also the airport is freezing which forces you to pay the $4 without even really caring. It also forces you to buy a $20 “Authentic” Las Vegas hoodie that you’ll probably never wear again.

Do you have a favorite Vegas resort?

Do you think we should all sign up to run Rock n Roll Las Vegas together this Nov.? : )

That hotel looks awesome! I have been to Vegas a few times, but always stayed at Planet Hollywood – I love it there.

I’ve never been to PH, but I heard Gordon Ramsey’s burger place is pretty good. It’s on my list for things to try next time, although I think Burger Bar will always be my favorite 🙂

15 hours in an airport! UGH! I’d go crazy! Glad you had a good time in Vegas. I’ve never been. That resort looks AWESOME!! 🙂

    • July 9, 2014 / 12:42 pm

It was so nice! I should have posted a picture of the bathroom …. it was literally the best bathroom I’ve ever been in. When I am rich and famous someday I am designing my custom bathroom after it 😀 It had a shower, bathub and a separate little room for the toilet! haha

  3. July 9, 2014 / 9:06 am

awww, I’m sorry that you had a rough time with flights and all that but overall your weekend looks fun!

p.s. my mom and I have been known to buy sweatshirts when we are cold – maybe we should get better at preparing! haha

    • July 9, 2014 / 12:43 pm

      Haha, we probably should!

I’m pretty sure every single girl at the airport who was waiting over an hour went and bought one of those beautiful sweatshirts! 😀

When I was in Vegas last September we stayed at MGM and they said the lion was gone! Did they get another one? I love new, fresh hoodies but I never pay for them. I’m not sure I would wear one out that says Vega on it but I am sure I would wear it around the house. I remember everywhere inside was so cold and smoky in Vegas. meh. Glad you are finally home and rested!

    • July 9, 2014 / 11:12 am

Amy! You caught me in my lion story (although I did use careful wording so it wouldn’t be a lie)!

We didn’t visit MGM Grand this trip even though I really wanted to so we could see the lions again. The lion pic I included was from our last trip 😀

  5. July 9, 2014 / 9:52 am

Vegas???? Where have I been? I absolutely love Vegas. I’ve heard Aria is amazing, never stayed there myself. UFC weekends is Vegas are awesome, I always watch them in the watch parties, but would love to attend it live some time.

My favorite resort is anything on the strip lolim not picky. RnR Vegas??? Are you planning a huge blogger meet up lol

    • July 9, 2014 / 12:45 pm

I was proud of myself for not falling asleep at the UFC event this weekend (in Houston I literally fell asleep in a packed arena that had something like 20,000 cheering fans in it, hahaha)!

A huge blogger meetup at RnR Vegas would be awesome! I don’t have the organizational skills to pull that together though 😀

  6. July 9, 2014 / 10:20 am

Oh, that place sounds super cool!!! We haven’t been to Vegas in years – I love to go but I don’t think it is a great kid vacation spot and Chris and I rarely get away by ourselves (soon!!!).

I think they are making a push to clean it up a bit. There were no men handing out XXX cards during the day time and very few at night. None of the cars had advertisements with women on them either. That was a big change from the last time we went just about 3 years ago. I saw lots of families there this time and heard that the hotels are trying to be a bit more family friendly — adding kids areas to the pools and even making additions like lazy river rides. I think Mandalay Bay has a lazy river for the family.

It would be fun to have a “blogger meet up” race. Wouldn’t a ragnar be fun?
I am glad you had a good time despite the travel woes…
My hubby does a lot of “race” weekends/days for me..I guess I have some computer expos and cycling events in my future. (Although, he has really gotten into racing too now… 🙂

  8. July 9, 2014 / 1:38 pm

I love Burger Bar! I don’t really have a “favorite” Vegas resort but I stayed at the MGM twice and the Wynn once…they were both nice but very different!
I would love to go run Rock N Roll Vegas! (but that’s probably not a smart idea since I have a full marathon the following week)

  9. July 9, 2014 / 2:38 pm

I SO want to do RnR Vegas!!!! They have a turn off at one point where couples can renew their vows and I so want my husband and I to do it next year for our 5th year anniversary 😀

tell Adam I think the acronym AOP is hilarious!

  10. July 9, 2014 / 3:14 pm

I have never been to Vegas but I think it would be fun. 🙂 I am with you on the big cat reminding you of house cat thing! When we were at the museum in Denver, they had taxidermy-ed (sp??) mountain lions and when we saw the baby one we both immediately cooed, “OOOohhhhh it’s Jellyyyyyyyyyy” lol. I will definitely hit you up for resort info if/when we go to Vegas. Probably won’t be until Paul stops having seizures because I have a feeling all those lights would be an epileptic’s NIGHTMARE lol.

      • July 10, 2014 / 8:19 am

Ohhh yeah it would probably not be so great for Paul right now. I hope you guys get to go sometime soon though. There is a ton that I don’t like about Vegas, but I do love that you can stay at a nice resort and see a bunch of shows at decent prices. In other areas I think the same resorts and shows cost more money than Vegas … in Vegas they can kind of subsidize the prices thinking you’re going to buy $20 cocktails and also gamble the night away in their casino 🙂

  11. July 9, 2014 / 5:00 pm

My husband and I have yet to go to Vegas together, but it is on our list for sure. I have stayed at the MGM (really liked the pool), Bellagio, and Hard Rock. All are great, even though Bellagio charges way too much for EVERYTHING ($30 for a day pass to the gym). Looks like you had a fun time and good for you for spoiling Adam for the weekend. 🙂 Sorry about the ridiculous amount of time you had to spend at the airport. Ugh. I would go crazy. I have some friends doing to RNR Half Marathon. I am contemplating doing it.

    • July 10, 2014 / 8:16 am

Aria’s resort fee was $25/day which covered the gym and wifi. When you sign on the wifi it welcomes you to use their “free” wifi for guests. You know “free” as in you already paid $25/day for it at checkin hah!

  12. July 9, 2014 / 8:14 pm

Looks like you had a great time!!

I always giggle at how we – as the adults that we are – censor swear words from our blogs! I do the same; but I just find it funny because clearly we’re using them in real life! hehe

  13. July 10, 2014 / 11:11 am

I would love to do the Rock n Roll Half one of these year! You know this year I am hoping to become a princess so I will be broke lol The resort looks really great. It stinks you got stuck for so long at the airport!! The lions is one of our places to hang out at for sure…oh and the giant margarita stand!
