I love three day weekends so much. This should really be the standard number of days off.
Friday afternoon when I got home from work Adam had already been dropped off from the airport which was a great surprise! After a long international flight he didn’t really feel like doing anything, so we just kicked back and watched the Running on the Sun documentary about the Badwater 135 ultramarathon.
Adam told me he missed me a lot “because no one in Finland told me any Scott Jurek facts.” I sensed a bit of sarcasm, so I’m going to try to contain myself and keep it to the blog.
My doctor appointment on Friday went really well. All day Thursday my foot was feeling 100% normal, but I wanted to keep the appointment just so I could get a professional opinion on whether I should start running again or not.
The doctor had me do a bunch of different little stretching moves, poked and prodded the foot and then told me I was good to go for an easy run on Saturday. He didn’t mention if an easy run meant an easy plus long run but I assumed that’s what he meant and did 12 miles. I had literally no aches or pains in the foot and all 12 miles passed perfectly. In the end I locked myself out of the apartment, but the run itself went great!
Sunday morning I woke up with just a tiny bit of soreness in my legs, but no aches in my foot. My first thought as I lay in bed was “I could definitely go for a run today!” But I didn’t because it was technically a scheduled rest day, and because I really want to get back into a good weightlifting routine.
I haven’t held a solid upper + lower body routine in over six months, so I had Adam watch me as we quickly ran through form on all the lifts that are part of my routine, and then he set me off to do work.
During my pull-down’s he noticed I was only doing 60lbs and came over to yell at me. I told him that after running 12 miles yesterday I was entitled to be a bit of a baby in the gym, but he wasn’t feeling that excuse.
In the end I put in a hard upper body workout and will be living with DOMS for a couple days!
After the gym we got into an argument over whose celebrity crush is better. He likes Aisha Tyler (host of Who’s Line Is It Anyway?), who I don’t think is funny at all. I guess I kind of understand why he likes her since I’m not funny either, but at least I haven’t tried to make a career out of it.
I like Aaron Rodgers, who clearly wins the celebrity crush argument because he’s been MVP of a Superbowl. End. Of. Story.
Who is your celebrity crush?
Doing anything fun today? BBQ is what it’s all about!
PS: My coach came in 1st place female in yesterday’s Boston Run to Remember 5-Miler! How awesome is that?!
