Weekend Running & Stuff!

What a weekend!

I’m supremely jealous of everyone who has today off of work, but I made the most of Friday evening – Sunday.

Friday after work I got together with a girlfriend to go see Into the Woods. In my opinion it was pretty bad, but I LOVE the dine-in theater with big comfy seats!

It’s awesome when you have a friend whose willing to let you eat the ice cream in exchange for giving her the whole brownie. That’s the kind of friend you keep for life.

On Saturday I got in a short but quality run. I pushed on the last mile but not super hard so I was REALLY pleased to see a mile in the 11s!

Saw this sign on my run — east Fort Lauderdale peeps keep an eye out so Molly can get back home ASAP!

Sunday I was planning to get my long run in early in the morning before the couch came and before the football games began, but I slept in until 9 “by accident.”

Ended up running all nine miles on the treadmill while watching poor Aaron lose to the Seahawks. The last two minutes of that game was pure BANANAS!

My long run wasn’t the easiest one ever. I felt really out of sync the whole time, which may just have to do with being on the treadmill. I’m not sure but I need to get it together because the Miami Half is this coming weekend!!!!

Even though I won’t be racing for a PR this time I still want to do the best I can! No more treadmill runs for a while!

Sort of off topic, but do you have a favorite cook book? I’m looking to purchase one this week!

I just got my mom and sister the “Skinnytaste” cookbook for Christmas and they love it! I don’t have one but I have heard great things about it!
You will do great in your half-marathon! Isn’t it better to get your not-so-good run out of the way this weekend so you can have an awesome run next weekend?!

    • January 19, 2015 / 4:49 pm

I’ve used the Skinnytaste website for ideas. I was thinking about the ST cookbook but I heard that a lot of the recipes are just rehashes of what’s already on the site.

Great point about getting the out-of-sync run done before race day!!

  2. January 19, 2015 / 6:52 am

OMGracious the Runners World Cookbook is awesome! Super yummy foods that are healthy and made for people like us!
I can’t believe you did 9 miles on the treadmill! I about died doing 7 last week!!! You are much braver than I!!
I hope Molly finds her way back home, I know I had a dog missing once and it was just awful!!!

    • January 19, 2015 / 4:50 pm

Thank you for the recommendation, I ordered the RW cookbook this morning!

I’ve done a full half marathon on the treadmill before 🙂 During the summer here it’s treadmill or bust a lot of days, unfortunately.

  3. January 19, 2015 / 7:20 am

I would love to go to a theater like that. I have heard of them, but I don’t think we have any around here! I bet they have them in Philly and Pittsburgh, though. Today we are going to go see American Sniper. I am very excited because it got good reviews. I have seen the musical Into the Woods and it was done really well, so I enjoyed it a lot. Unfortunately, the movie versions of musicals are usually not great!

    • January 19, 2015 / 4:52 pm

The theater has DELICIOUS food (their steak tacos are some of the best I’ve ever had) but dinner + a movie there can definitely get expensive. Then again, if you consider that you’re already paying an arm and a leg for a tub of crappy popcorn, the steak tacos seem like a good deal 😉

I haven’t seen the Into the Woods musical. I thought I would like the movie because I like musicals but there was just something about the crossing storylines that I just didn’t love. I thought Meryl Streep and Johnny Depp (small part) were quite good. Didn’t love Anna Kendrick as Cinderella even though I love her in general.

  4. January 19, 2015 / 8:43 am

Oh man, I love those dine in theatres. Wife and I have been a couple times, but for me delicious food + big comfy chair = sleepy lol.

Great runs, unfortunately when I think of running right now I want to curl up into a ball and cry. That packers loss was brutal, I still can’t believe what I was watching. Can’t wait for the Miami Half, your going to do great.

    • January 19, 2015 / 4:53 pm

Hahah if the seats reclined I am sure I would have passed out on Fri. night!

I hope your foot starts feeling better!

The Packers loss was ridiculous. I think my fastest miles occurred right after the game ended and I was mad and cranking up the speed, haha!

  5. January 19, 2015 / 8:49 am

Hi Kristina! I’m a new reader and wanted to introduce myself. Good luck with your upcoming half marathon. I agree with Staci above – I got the Runner’s World Cookbook for my birthday last month and have enjoyed it so far.

    • January 19, 2015 / 4:54 pm

Hey Kimberly! Thanks for popping in!

I ordered the RW cookbook this morning thanks to your recommendation!

  6. January 19, 2015 / 9:25 am

Ahhh love those theaters! I went to one over Christmas when I was in Ft. Lauderdale!

I find most of my recipes online so I don’t have any good recommendations 🙁

    • January 19, 2015 / 9:21 pm

Ohhhh you must have went to the same one I went to since it’s the only one here! haha

  7. January 19, 2015 / 9:57 am

I love the dine in theater here 🙂 Its pricey, but so worth it. When something really worth seeing comes out we always go. I didn’t see Into the Woods, I think the singing would drive me nuts. Saw the Wedding Ringer this weekend, it was funnier than i expected:)
I am always impressed you can stay on the treadmill like that! Good job on getting it done 🙂 I think you will have a great race even if you aren’t going to push you are really seeing some speedier miles lately 🙂

    • January 19, 2015 / 9:22 pm

I actually thought I would like the singing, but it was just the meshing story lines that I didn’t like. Also one of the reasons why I am in the 1% of females who didn’t like Love Actually! haha

I agree about the prices … totally worth it when you consider what a tub of popcorn and a diet soda costs at a regular theater!

  8. January 19, 2015 / 10:41 am

Well, I don’t cook so can’t help you there lol! That dine-in theater looks rad!!!

  9. January 19, 2015 / 10:52 am

Sounds like a great weekend! I saw Into the Woods on Christmas Day and thought it was so-so. I thoroughly enjoyed the waterfall singing scene though 😉 I’m also back to work today, though I’m working from home to ease the transition. Agency life doesn’t pause for bank holidays! However, I suspect my clients will be more responsive today (which is good) since court isn’t in session on MLK Jr. Day.

Great job picking up the pace on that third mile! You’re getting quite speedy!

    Cookbook recommendations:
    – Runner’s World Cookbook is a great one! I currently have it checked out of the library and I really like it.
    – Practical Paleo. Even if you’re not paleo, there are some really, really good recipes in here.

    • January 19, 2015 / 9:23 pm

I cannot deny that the waterfall scene was hilarious! Definitely the best part of the movie!

Thanks for the cookbook recommendations! I ordered the RW cookbook and will check out the paleo one.

  10. January 19, 2015 / 12:03 pm

I have not been to a movie in the theater in ages because I get so uncomfortable and I would much rather sit back and relax at home. But if I was lured there with a brownie and ice cream? That is a different story!
I love all cookbooks. Funny thing is that I barely follow recipes to a T, but I LOVE the idea of reading them and getting inspiration 🙂

    • January 19, 2015 / 9:25 pm

I am so with you on sitting back and relaxing at home where you can curl up under a blanket instead of freezing in the theater! The comfy seats at this theater (and the brownies) draw me to it though!

  11. January 19, 2015 / 12:33 pm

I love those kinds of theaters! I really should try to go to them more often, but since they are pricey, I prioritize it for when I want to seen more teen-oriented movies (i.e., the rooms at such theaters that serve alcohol so they’re 21+, so no screaming teenagers around.:) ).

What didn’t you like about Into the Woods? Have you ever seen the stage production? I thought they stuck to it pretty well, except for a few “disney-fied” parts that while annoying to not have (there’s a reprise of Agony that’s really funny, but it’s basically about the princes cheating on their wives, so understandable for disney to not include it), overall I enjoyed it.

I wasn’t watching the game, but checked the score occasionally online. Go Hawks! (Sorry, I grew up in Washington, I might not actually care about the superbowl, but I’m required to be excited that the Seahawks are playing it!)

    • January 19, 2015 / 9:33 pm

REALLY good idea to prioritize seeing non-teen movies at the dine-in theater!

I have never seen the stage production of Into the Woods. I liked the musical aspect of it and I thought Meryl Streep was quite good, but I didn’t like the meshing story lines. That’s no fault of the movie I suppose, it’s my fault for seeing the movie when I know I don’t like movies or stories like that.

  12. January 19, 2015 / 12:50 pm

Your half is so soon.!! I’m jealous, I want to ruin a half marathon soon 🙂

Yea that seahawks game was insane.! I was rooting for the seahawks though. Lol.
And Good job on pushing it on your run 🙂

    • January 19, 2015 / 9:25 pm

I cannot imagine how exciting the ending to that game was for a Seahawks fan! I think I would have died of happiness!

  13. January 19, 2015 / 2:06 pm

I wish we had a theater that served dinner and drinks!
I would give you all the ice cream (I don’t really eat ice cream!!).
I don’t know if I can pick one favorite cookbook – I have way too many. I love the Fix it and Forget it books for crockpot cooking. Years ago when I was in MOPS (Mothers of Preschool Students) we put together a cookbook – one of my top picks because it is easy stuff using ingredients I always tend to have around.

    • January 19, 2015 / 9:26 pm

That’s so cool that you put together a cookbook, I bet that was so helpful for other moms looking for easy dinner ideas!

I would gladly take the ice cream if you’re willing to give it up!! haha

  14. January 19, 2015 / 4:15 pm

I have enjoyed the Runner’s world cookbook, I also use the epicurious app on my phone a lot.
I watched football 2 weekends ago while on the treadmill. It became dangerous after a while, I found myself “scrambling” to avoid tackles! I guess I get a little too into the games!

    • January 19, 2015 / 9:28 pm

I’m not familiar with the epicurious app but I will download it and check it out.

I bought the RW cookbook this morning so it received so many votes of confidence!

I know what you mean about watching football on the treadmill. As the game got more intense, I kept bumping up the speed .1 haha

  15. January 19, 2015 / 4:17 pm

That’s good to know that you didn’t like Into the Woods. I’ve heard such mixed reviews– some people raved about it, but I know others thought it was awful. i guess I’ll have to watch it for myself!

    • January 19, 2015 / 9:28 pm

Yeah, I’ve heard people talk about how good it was too. My friend thought it was so-so and I thought it was a bit boring. Meryl Streep was really good in it!

  16. January 19, 2015 / 6:06 pm

Ugh. The Seahawks & Patriots were the two teams I did NOT want to go to the super bowl. Only consolation is that 1 will lose. 🙂 Exciting that your half is coming up!!

    • January 19, 2015 / 9:29 pm

Hahahha that’s a good way of looking at it!

Just a few days to go until the half! It feels like it’s been so long since I’ve raced even though it has been less than a month, hah!

  17. January 19, 2015 / 11:10 pm

I give you mad props for running so many miles on a treadmill! I swear, I can’t get through more than 3 miles…and even that’s a challenge and all I do is whine and complain the entire time, haha.

I don’t have a favorite cookbook, but I probably need to get one, lol. I SUCK at cooking, and I really never enjoyed it…but I promised myself I would try a little harder this year. Let us know what you end up with! 🙂

  18. January 20, 2015 / 6:32 am

Such a cool movie theater!! My mom said they opened an iPix, iPic? near their house and been enjoying that theater alot more b/c there are no teeny boppers lol. I love brownie sundaes.

  19. January 20, 2015 / 11:42 am

Were you running for the end of the game?! If so, I think you can definitely blame your out-of-sync-ness on being distracted by the tv. I think I would have forgotten what I was doing and fallen off the treadmill. It was madness!

  20. January 21, 2015 / 10:36 pm

I’m so excited for you half this weekend. You got your “bad” long run out of the way which means the half will be AMAZING.
