Shall we sum up Monday in one word? Nope, I don’t use that kind of language here on the blog.
Instead of thinking about how far we have to go until Friday, let’s rewind to the good times.
Saturday I woke up disgustingly late and it felt amazing. I have zero regrets about sleeping in, except to say that I think my whole “become a morning runner” is becoming something of a running joke. (Get it? Hah.)
I’m cat sitting Georgie while my mom is on vacation, so once I pulled myself out of bed I went over to feed him a very late breakfast. He’s used to my mom being home with him all the time, so I don’t think he even minded that I was late, he was just glad to see a human!
As soon as I got home from playing with that fluffy little guy I geared up for a run at the beach. It was such a pretty day out and I was anxious to get in my long run.
One of my former coaches reached out to me after reading my spring training post. She advised me to keep my long runs to 8-10 miles instead of 10-13 miles since I have no real race on the horizon. Instead of focusing on running 10+ every weekend she said I should do one hard effort and one moderate effort speed workout. Combined with an 8-10 miler every weekend I should still get back to my former paces without risking burn out right before I start marathon training. That sounds like a good plan to me!
In addition to modifying my training plan to include two speed workouts, she also advised that I start lifting heavier again. I admitted that I’m only squatting 50lbs right now, and for me that’s just not a lot. I don’t even feel sore afterwards… so I’m going to work my way back up to at least 100lb squats, which won’t take me long.
Sunday was a light cross training day before heading out to celebrate my friend Aislinn’s bday.
Spent a little bit of time with the elliptical while listening to some guy grunt really loudly by the weights.
For Aislinn’s birthday we went to a place called Mai Kai. It’s a polynesian dinner show theater with some really fun sets. The food was good but the best part was definitely the guys who danced with fire!
The show was great but we didn’t get home until after 10pm which is quite late for a Sunday! ZzZZzzzzz 🙂 I’m going to need a nap….
Before I go today I just have to give a SHOUTOUT to one of my favorite people in the run blog community, Helly. After having to take some time off due to injury she has come back swinging for the fences! In the last couple of weeks she’s set multiple PRs and even earned first place overall at the 5K she ran over the weekend.
