Weekend Snapshot: Running and Football!

Hey there! Happy Monday. I hope that you had a great weekend. I think mine was PERFECT! I got in a couple of great runs and the Dolphins won their game on Sunday in blowout fashion!

I’ve decided to start doing Weekend Snapshot videos. Basically, each weekend I’ll edit together a collection of short videos that show the best parts of my weekend. There won’t be any talking, just clips and good music. Here’s the first Weekend Snapshot!

I’m really happy with how my run/walking went both over the weekend and during last week overall. Some of the tightness in my Piriformis and hips seems to be going away and I’m not really having any calf or foot issues to speak of.

Saturday I did a six mile run/walk that went well… except for when I decided I wanted to run down to my old neighborhood without bringing a water bottle. Originally I was planning to just do 2 miles loops around my car down at the beach, but then I got the bright idea to run over to my old stomping grounds.

In my still sleepy brain it didn’t occur to me that would mean running about five miles without any water (since I left my bottle in the car). BAD IDEA when it’s still so warm out! Luckily around mile 4 I was able to stop at a gas station and buy some Gatorade. I felt A LOT better after that and my run/walk pace picked up a bit for a strong finish.

Mile 1: 14:17
Mile 2: 13:32
Mile 3: 14:08
Mile 4: 14:37 (soooo thirsty)
Mile 5: 14:09 (rehydrated and feeling better)
Mile 6: 13:38 (finished feeling strong)
6 miles / 14:03 pace / 80*F with 65% humidity

Since we moved in January I haven’t been running bridges much. Running through my old neighborhood meant I got to run a bridge twice and I was really happy to see that I was still able to make it up and over without a struggle. That’s really important because all of the half marathons I’ll run this fall/winter will go over at least one bridge and I want to feel strong when tackling them.

I know it sounds rude, but when I can power up a bridge and everyone else is slowed to a walk I get a little boost of confidence and energy.

After my run on Saturday I didn’t really do much. Adam is still recovering from a sinus infection and wanted to just hang out at home which was fine by me. The last few weekends have been spent on-the-go and while they were fun I welcomed a break from it all.

Sunday we got up early to go tailgate and cheer on our Dolphins! It was an AMAZING game. We went into halftime with a score of 41 to 0!!!! Adam kept saying that he couldn’t imagine a better birthday gift :).

After the game I was totally pumped up so I threw on my running clothes and headed back down to the beach for a short run/walk. The second mile was a little faster than I intended it to be, but it also felt really good. I didn’t feel any calf tightness or tingling so I think it’s okay that I pushed the pace a little bit. Since I was doing a run/walk I was frequently checking in with myself, and I would have stopped if anything felt wrong.

Mile 1: 13:32
Mile 2: 12:44
2 miles / 13:03 pace / 82*F with 66% humidity

Overall, such a great weekend! I am looking forward to tonight as well because we’re going out for Adam’s bday!

I hope you had a great weekend. Tell me all about it!

How did your football team do this weekend?
Any other October or November birthdays? Adam’s is today and my mom’s is Nov 1st!

Happy Birthday, Adam! Football went well this weekend, a little closer than I would have liked. I missed the game because I was at a baby shower :(. Next weekend…game on! 😉
Glad your injury seems to be healing. Great job with the bridge running!

Ah yes! During the Dolphins game we kept checking the Pats score because of course we wanted the JETS to lose, We figured if the Pats lost on Sunday they would totally eat us for revenge this Thursday night! Looking forward to a good game! 🙂

I am glad you are able to get your run/walks in! I am sure it takes the edge off having to rehab an injury to be able to do still go out and get some running in!

Of course Paul is sad that his Bill’s lost. But he loves football so much so he had fun watching it all day while I puzzled.

Awww yeah that is a bummer that they lost to the Jags. I understand how terrible that feels since the Dolphins did the same thing earlier this year! Tell Paul I feel his pain! 🙂

I love the weekend snapshot video. Any excuse to see more Cecil! 🙂

It was a good football weekend for me as well, the Badgers seem to be sorting things out.

Have fun at the birthday dinner tonight!

      Thanks very much!

I am glad Cecil has no idea he is on the Internet. He already has a healthy ego, if he knew he was on YouTube he would be insufferable! 😉

You’re doing really great getting back into running after your injury, especially tackling those bridges. I have a really hard time getting back to any elevation change after an injury. I start really training this week, so I’m hoping to channel some of your strength while I try to get myself back to racing shape.

My Gators didn’t play this weekend, but we went up a little in the polls! I’m hoping for a good bowl game.

Have fun going out for Adam’s birthday! Mine is in November and we are going on a 9-day trip to Utah for it. I’m pretty excited!

Thanks Kerry! I didn’t realize that you went to UF! I grew up around that area and know lots of Gators! Fingers crossed for you!

A nine day trip to Utah sounds INCREDIBLE! Be sure to take a lot of pics for the blog 🙂

    Happy birthday Adam!

Haha I’ve definitely made the mistake of trying to go too far without water before. I’m glad you’re starting to feel stronger on your runs! How exciting that your half marathon season starts soon!

Packers had a bye this week 🙂

I can’t believe how many teams are undefeated so far this season! The packers are my backup team (in case the Dolphins don’t make the playoffs… which they never do), so I am always rooting for them! Specifically for Aaron <3!

Loved the weekend snapshot video! I’m glad you are continuing to feel better and have pain free runs!

I have been reading your blog for a while and I still get jealous that you live near the beach!

In terms of football, VT lost to Duke in the 4th overtime. Lame. The Panthers won last night 🙂

Happy Birthday, Adam! Glad to hear your piriformis is feeling a bit better, Kristina!!

Way to go Dolphins…my team…not so much going anywhere 🙁 I smiled when I read this line, “I know it sounds rude, but when I can power up a bridge and everyone else is slowed to a walk I get a little boost of confidence and energy.” b/c it happens to me too 🙂
