Weekly Training Recap: An Exhausting Week

Hey guys! It’s Tuesday which can only mean one thing: it’s weekly workout recap day! (Except for last week when I forgot to post a recap, eek.)

Adam received a couple of questions about his workouts last time he posted his recap so he decided he’s going to film a couple of videos explaining the lifts he does.

Here is the first video of some upper body lifts he likes to do:

Each week for the next couple of weeks he’ll share a new video with a few more lifts. I may even try to get him to talk through the lifts :).

Kristina’s Week at a Glance

Training for: Nothing specific, just base building/maintaining a base.

Days running: 3

Days lifting: 0

Days Jasyoga: 4

Miles this week: 15

My schedule called for five days of running, seven days of Jasyoga videos and a couple days of strength training. However, I ended up putting in several long days at work and was just generally exhausted all week.

This may be TMI but I switched birth control pills and I think it wrecked havoc on my body. Not only did I feel exhausted last week but I started my period two weeks early. Ugh, not my best week.

Glute Activation video from Jasyoga.

The first week this video really kicked my butt, but last week it felt easier. I think I just wasn’t used to following along with yoga videos the first time around. I like this video a lot, I can definitely feel it working my butt!

Chest day:

– BB Flat Bench 3 @ 245lbs
– BB Incline Bench 4×12 @ 135lbs
– Dips 4×8
– DB Flys 3×10 @ 25lbs
– Tricep Rope Pushdowns 4×12 @ 110lbs
– DB Tricep Kickback 3×10 @ 10lbs

Skipped run due to feeling really exhausted from working past midnight the previous night.

Rest day.

5 miles easy run/walk + plank workout.

This was the first run that felt really effortless in a long time. I felt like I blinked and the run was over. I can’t believe how hot out it is already though.

Shoulder day:

– BB Seated Overhead Press 12 @ 95lbs
– BB Seated Overhead Press 3×12 @ 95lbs
– DB Shoulder Raises 4×10 @ 25lbs
– Band Pull-Aparts 3×12
– BB Curl 4×12 @ 65lbs
– DB Concentration Curls 4×12 @ 25lbs

Another skipped run. I was honestly a mess last week. Came home and napped from 5pm until 8pm.

Planned rest day.

Leg Day + 20 Minute Run

– Box Squat 5 @ 225lbs
– Front Squat 3×12 @ 135lbs
– Bulgarian Split Squat 4×8
– Pull Throughs 3×12 @ 115lbs
– BB Twists 3×8 @ 95lbs

3 miles easy run/walk plus the Jasyoga hip reset and calf reset videos.

I felt totally dead during this run and I have no idea why since I barely ran earlier in the week and I slept in pretty late. The only thing I can attribute it to is the new birth control pills messing with me.

MMA Day (Grappling & Striking)

7 miles easy run/walk plus Jasyoga Power Your Pushoff video.

The first two miles of this run my calves felt suuuuuuper tight, but somewhere in the third mile they really loosened up and after that they felt totally fine. Go figure.

I did make a rookie mistake during this run and I didn’t drink or eat anything until I was 1 hr 15 mins into the run. I felt a pretty big dip in energy at that point, but once I ate half a Gu my energy picked back up and I finished the run with negative splits.

Deadlift Day:

Trap Bar Deadlift 3 @ 355
Trap bar deadlift 3×8 @ 235
Wall Balls 4×8

And that’s a wrap.

I’m looking forward to having a much better week and getting in all of my runs, yoga videos and strength training days!

How was your week last week?
What were the temps like by you over the weekend?

Great job last week, despite not feeling great! How do you decide what yoga videos to do? Does your coach assign a specific video? There are so many options that sometimes I get overwhelmed deciding which ones to do!

Hey Lisa! My coach assigns me specific videos to do a couple of times per week, and then she leaves the other days up to me based on how my body is feeling. Because my hips and my calves are my weak areas I tend to do those the most when I have free reign!

I really need to get back on strength training. I was doing well and then got busy! 🙂 Always enjoy seeing what others are doing so I can switch it up at times! 🙂

Hey Staci! I hear ya on that. Whenever I get super busy lifting is definitely the first thing that I skip. I hope that your world has gotten less hectic!

      So far, so good! 🙂

Today I am leaving early to take Cecil to the vet. He’s developed a random little cough. He only coughs about once per week but it’s happened 3X now and I am an overprotective mom! I am sure it’s nothing but I have to know for sure!

Last week of training was tough for me. The heat and humidity here in Miami only made things harder. I totally understand you about training with your period, ugh! hope you can adapt quickly to your birth control pills.

I absolutely understand that 100%! The heat and humidity is killer for this early in the year 🙁

Man this dual recap is awesome. Such a difference in the different workouts.

We got a ton of rain at the race on Saturday. Recap coming soon ?

Hahahah seeing Adam’s workouts next to mine makes me feel like I need to step my game up!

  5. February 21, 2017 / 2:06 pm

Birth control pills used to mess with me and make me super tired! I hope you get yours worked out!

How did you sleep the night of the 5-8 nap?

The weather in PA was perfect this weekend! we had highs of 60s and sunny! Very unusual for PA in the winter.

      February 22, 2017 / 7:30 am

I stayed up a little later than usual after the 5-8pm nap, but I was so tired that I still fell asleep as soon as my head hit the pillow later that night!

60s and sunny sounds BEAUTIFUL! Don’t brag so much!! 🙂

  6. February 21, 2017 / 4:10 pm

I hope you have more energy this week. It sucks being a woman. I am finally over whatever was plaguing me and thrn boom I got my period. I always feel ill the first day and reaaaaaslly tired. I’m tired of being tired.

OMG I am so sorry. Being sick and then starting your period immediately after seems incredibly unfair! I hope your energy picks back up today!

  7. February 26, 2017 / 6:01 pm

New BC can definitely mess with your energy etc, especially if you have an unexpected period because that takes a lot of energy from your body. I’m sure you switched for a reason, so I hope your body and the new pill sync up nicely soon!
