What a weekend! Since this is a blog about running I should start with the terrible run I had on Saturday. I had 12 miles on the schedule and was really looking forward to it since I didn’t do a long run last weekend while on the cruise, and I’ve had low mileage for the last two weeks.
Unfortunately, whatever part of the body is directly behind the right knee cap was REALLY ANGRY. Starting with mile one each step was painful, but I thought if I could just stretch it out and warm up properly it would go away… but it never did.
At mile one I told myself to just keep going and re-evaluate at mile three. At mile three I thought, well, I should be properly warmed up by now so let’s get to mile five and re-evaluate again.
My plan was to keep re-evaluating every two to three miles … until I eventually reached 12. After mile five I knew I couldn’t go on though, each step literally made me want to yell out a little bit.
When I woke up on Sunday morning I was really glad I didn’t push myself to go on because my leg was so stiff/sore/painful I couldn’t bend it at all without it hurting. It loosened up after stretching and icing, and now it feels almost normal but I will keep a close eye on whatever it is.
I’ve actually had pain/soreness in this same area before two times, but never this bad. It’s always gone away on its own, as I believe it is doing now. No idea what causes it though!
Cecil took care of me when I got home from my run. He supervised while I iced and stretched.
Other than that painful run, my weekend was really good! I watched the Heat kick Charlotte’s butt of course, spent lots of time with Adam and I began evaluating new granola bars.
I have literally never tasted a granola bar that I really love. I like adding granola to my yogurt, so it’s not that I don’t like granola, I just dislike it in bar form I guess.
I got this one at Target for a taste test on Sunday:
The packaging is really pretty, and there were LOTS of chocolate chips which was obviously nice … but it still didn’t impress my taste buds. I am pretty convinced that there was no actual peanut butter in this bar anywhere. I think it should be renamed Peanuts & Dark Chocolate.
Hmph!
What was the best part of your weekend?
Any granola bar recommendations?
-I am convinced there must be a good one out there!
Well crap, dirty about your bad run and the pain in your knee. I hope it goes away quickly.
GO HEAT!! Love that they are the only series up 3-0.
Best part of weekend was our race, thanks for coming by and reading about it.
I do the Cliff bars and the Nature Valley trail mix ones.

GO HEAT! Way to sweep the series 🙂
I think Cliff bar chocolate chip tastes like a chips ahoy cookie–
I agree granola bars for taste, I can take them or leave them, but they are a handy snack to have in sports bags, purse, car etc. to fuel up…
I hope your knee continues to improve, hopefully it was just a fluke thing!

Thank you! It’s feeling about 90% back to normal, fingers crossed it’s 100% tomorrow!
Paul loves those Kind bars! I hope your kneecap feels better soon. Smart choice to stop a run. I know that is HARD to do! Cecil will nurse you back to health in no time. 😉

Ugh so hard! I just kept thinking “well, maybe I can do two more miles, or three” but I knew in the long run it would be better to just stop. Cecil is being a great nurse 🙂
So sorry about the pain behind your knee – hopefully it’s nothing major.
I don’t eat much granola – when I do eat bars they are the old school Nature Valley Granola bars.

Good choice! The Nature Valley ones are probably my favorite, if I had to pick — I like that they’re crunchy!
I worked most of this weekend, but I got to see my boyfriend for the first time in almost 2 weeks, so that was nice (: I’m with you on granola bars, I’m not a huge fan. The KIND bars aren’t bad though, and Starbucks’ Evolution bars are good! I prefer the Luna protein bars when I need a snack haha. I hope your knee feels better soon!

Ohh I’ve never tried the Evolution bars, I will have to do that ASAP!
Yay for seeing your boyfriend! Two weeks is such a long time. I definitely know first hand as Adam and I were long distance for a few months back in 2005 and it was so annoying. I hope you get to see your bf again soon!
ugh. pain while running is the worst. and i LOVE that meme! i’m pretty sure that sums up my entire life.
best part of my weekend was chillin with my Mr. and Little G. we hit up the farmer’s market and played in the pool.
my favorite bar is also made by kind…it’s apricot and almond i think. it’s VERY gooey and full of sugar i’m sure 🙂

I LOVE going to the Farmer’s Market. It always amazes me how the pineapple from the market is always sweet and yet from the grocery store it’s always sour!
I really love those Kind bars. I miss granola bars, and the texture is really nice. I like the honey ones best. The regular chocolate chip is great too; I haven’t tried the peanut butter.
It’s amazing you got 5 miles done before you had to quit. That’s truly impressive!! I hope your knee feels better soon!

I did like that these Kind bars were crunchy. I will have to try the chocolate chip ones!
I added a little extra peanut butter to the ones I have and that really made all the difference 🙂
Oh no, that’s no good about your knee. Hope it clears up really soon and you can get back out there. Maybe just a random pain designed to force you to rest for a week or however long? How frustrating though, but lucky you called it day and didn’t push it further.
Hmm, no good with granola bar advice, sorry. But yes, love adding it to yoghurt or ice cream, or just eating handfuls.
Hiya! Quick question that’s completely off topic.
Do you know how to make your site mobile friendly? My blog looks weird when viewing from my apple iphone.
I’m trying to find a theme or plugin that might be able to resolve
this issue. If you have any recommendations, please share. Cheers!
Well crud!! I hope the knee is doing better!!!
