What a Runner Grabs When Her Fire Alarm Goes Off
You quickly learn what is important to you when the fire alarm in your condo building goes off at 1am.
The first thing I did was find Cecil (who was scared to death) and put him in his carrier.
What I did next, I am kind of ashamed to admit…
I grabbed my iPad and then I thought briefly about grabbing all of my favorite running tops. I wish I was kidding about this, but it really happened.
The fire alarm was blaring at 1am and I was standing in front of my closet wondering what I could (very quickly) pack my running tops in! My first thought was that they would fit perfectly in my laptop bag, but I couldn’t find it so I had to leave them behind.
What in the world is wrong with me?!
Luckily this all turned out to be a false alarm. It was also a false alarm when the noise starting blaring AGAIN at 2am.
In between worrying about my iPad and running tops, I actually thought about grabbing pictures – you know, the kind of stuff that people say is irreplaceable. But I realized that these days all my pictures are safely stored in Instagram and Facebook so I didn’t need to worry about them…. Here’s one I really like:
I’m glad I thought about getting Cecil before anything else. I think this means I’m not totally crazy.
To be fair, if I actually saw fire or smoke I would have hightailed it out of there with Cecil and Adam in two seconds flat. However, I peeked out the front door and saw that our escape route was clear and I didn’t see anything alarming.
Also, my neighbors were not exactly rushing out the building either. Not that I blindly follow their lead. I would not jump off a bridge if they did.
What are the first things you would grab if your fire alarm went off?
