What I Wear to Work

Hey there! Hope you’re off to a good Monday :).

Earlier this year I posted a survey asking you what you would like to see more of on the blog. One of the most requested post types was fashion. Unfortunately I am not super fashionable.

I love accessories but when it comes to actual clothes I mostly wear what’s comfortable and looks halfway decent.

I used to be really into fashion but as my body rapidly changed while I was in the midst of my eating disorders I stopped enjoying the process of trying on and buying clothes. I’m hopeful that passion will come back some day, but for now I’m happy to just obsess over accessories and makeup.

All of that being said, I aim to please so here is my first fashion post. I get up and ready for work at 5am which I consider to be unnaturally early, so I apologize for the bad lighting and grumpy facial expressions. I’ll work on that if you want more of these type of posts :)!

Monday

A simple dark green dress, gold leaf necklace, gold ballet slippers, Mejuri Stay Brave bracelet, rings and two-tone Anne Klein watch.

TuesdayΒ

Blue and white dress, gold ballet slippers,Β Mejuri Stay Brave bracelet, rings and two-tone Anne Klein watch.

Wednesday

Purple, black and white dress, black ballet slippers,Β Mejuri Stay Brave bracelet, rings and two-tone Anne Klein watch.

Cecil is looking at me like “why the hell are you taking pictures of yourself at 5am.”

Thursday

Worked from home and had a pretty busy day. Black top and flower shorts. Didn’t straighten my hair or wear any jewelry. I’m lucky I remembered to shower let alone actually *get ready* :).

Friday

Black and white shirt dress, black ballet flats,Β Mejuri Stay Brave bracelet and two-tone Anne Klein watch. I need to find a cute, short necklace to go with this dress.

I had not put on my glasses yet when I took these pics in the morning. I am now realizing I probably need to adjust a setting on my camera because they are a little blurry. I’ll play around with it if I do another fashion-y post in the future!

In all honestly this may be the best I can do for 5am!

I know most people who read here don’t leave comments and maybe don’t have the time to do so. I’m hoping the heart/like button helps to make giving feedback easier! Thanks!

How long does it take you to get ready in the morning?
Do you wear dresses to work a lot like I do?

I’m awful about commenting but you are on my Feedly so I read every post! I am very not fashionable and would prefer to wear black pants and a sweater every day at work. Thankfully I work in Boston so I can get away with that for a pretty large percentage of the year πŸ™‚ I don’t wear makeup at all and my hair is stick straight every day, so I spend about 15 minutes actively getting ready in the morning and about 45 minutes doing things around the house that I should have done the night before, haha.

Hey Laura! I remember seeing your comments on a couple of other posts πŸ™‚ Now that I’m not running at all I feel like many days I’m not sure what to post so I figured I better ask for feedback!

If I could wear anything to work I would definitely wear black yoga pants and a sweater πŸ™‚ Or just my pajamas!

I mostly wear the same things over and over. When I work at the hospital, I wear scrubs. When I do counseling, I wear a pair of cropped black pants and some sort of light or short-sleeve top. I also wear mostly the same accessories πŸ˜‚ I think it reduces my mental energy to not have to decide what to wear.

Before I wrote this post I thought I changed up my accessories frequently, but I realize I wear the same thing pretty much every day! I think it must reduce my mental energy to not have to decide too haha!

Your wardrobe is so colorful! My work wardrobe is pretty much neutrals only, with my favorite outfits being black with black. It’s my power outfit for when I need to feel like a boss.

I love black on black! I have to force myself to buy things with pops of color — but as you can see I still keep it dark πŸ˜‰

For some reason I thought you mostly wore dress shorts and sleeveless dress shirts to work! Why did I think that? I did not know you wore dresses every day. They are very pretty! Where do you like to shop for them? I like the shirt dress the best. Yes I normally always wear dresses to work because I think they are very comfortable and less restrictive than dress pants. It takes me about 15 min to get ready in the morning since I lay everything out the night or week before and take very short showers.

I do wear dresses almost every day… today I am not wearing a dress though. I’m wearing an orange blouse and navy trousers. I like dresses because they are less restrictive too!

The stuff in these pictures is a mix of Macy’s, Old Navy and Target. I don’t spend a ton on my work clothes. The most expensive dress here was only $60 (the one from Tues.)

I like to wear dresses to work a lot during the summer, too – it’s so easy! I really like the dresses you chose in these pics!

I am so not a fashionista. Since I don’t have a public facing job there’s not a lot of incentive for me to spend valuable AM time making myself look super cute, so I remain a very simple dresser. The nice thing about my work environment is that it’s a little more casual so I can get away with more comfortable outfits most days. I think a lot more workplaces are trending this way.

Thanks Hanna! That is really nice that you can dress casual – we can dress in jeans and a nice top most days I just opt for dresses because I think they are more comfortable :). Sometimes on Fridays I’ll wear shorts if there are no clients coming to the office! That’s the best!

  6. Ana

OMG! I’m like Megan, in my mind you went to work on shorts and a shirt! Thanks for clearing that up!

I love the purple and black dress from Wednesday! I admire those of you who are fashionable for work!

I have 7 pairs of black pants, 7 jackets (5 black, 2 gray) and 1 pair of red pants and 1 gray… I rotate them with shirts and don’t’ bother with anything else. I struggle with dresses, because I don’t have shoes that don’t hurt my feet when I wear them, I would rather wear my comfy shoes with my pants and not worry about balancing in heels.

Hahhaa I think I posted a pic once where I wear wearing shorts and a shirt, but that was just because we were doing a team building activity that day and were out of the office! Although I do wear things like that on Fridays sometimes if there are no clients coming to the office πŸ™‚

I don’t wear shoes that hurt either! I stopped wearing high heels when I started running! Ballet flats all day every day!

Super cute! Love the dresses! I work mostly from home but I always get ready like I am going into the office–it’s just a thing that is important to me. It doesn’t really take me very long. About 40 minutes for shower, make-up and hair! A little less if I wear my hair up. I actually really love doing my make up…but hate doing my hair πŸ™

    1. Kristina

I totally get it – back when I used to work from home all the time I would have to get up and ready too just to feel like a human!

  8. Karen Bayne

You look so cute! I think you look very fashionable and dressy πŸ™‚
You should see how i walk into work, I have gotten lazy in my old age…
I have not been motivated since i gained weight to shop and I have such issues with my feet hurting i can’t wear cute shoes much anymore…I have to wear dansko and my orthotics. I try to look presentable like a day week LOL

I hear you, 100%. I have very little motivation to shop for clothes, try things on, etc. and haven’t for years. It’s such a struggle. Back when I was skinny I thought I wasn’t skinny enough, now the opposite. I know you get it. I wish clothes would just show up in my closet! πŸ˜€

Fun idea!! Where did you get your last dress? The b/w one πŸ™‚
