Where Did the Summer Go?

The sun is setting a little bit earlier these days, and sadly soon it will be dark before I even get home from work. I’m gonna miss my favorite views of the beach and intracoastal all winter long!

I really can’t believe the end of summer is just about upon us. Before you know it we’ll be running Turkey Trots and Jingle Bell races!

Speaking of races, yesterday I got an email that the 5K I was supposed to run this weekend was CANCELLED! I’ve never had a race cancelled on me before, how disappointing!!!!

At work we’re doing a little project where we bring in several personal items that we feel represent who we are. Here’s what I brought:

unnamed (10)

A picture of Cecil and Adam, OBVIOUSLY.

Race medals, NATURALLY.

Miami Dolphins necklace, DUH.

Camera? Yeah, I really need to get some practice shooting in before the trip to Europe next month!

Not that I expect to be taking any world famous shots of the Eiffel Tower or anything, but it would be nice to learn how to take a straight shot : ) Most of my pictures come out with a nice tilt, no idea why! I must live my life a bit off balance.

(I can’t wait to add more big shiny medals to my collection this fall!!!!)

What items would you group together to represent YOU?

PS: Does anyone else use Feedly as their blog reader? If so, have you been having problems with it the last couple of days? Posts have been showing up 24-48 hours late for me!

Those are great representations! (It was nice to see a picture of Adam, too!)
Five things that represent me–1. Family picture=Dave and the 3 kids 2. Picture of Tink and Prilla (the pups) 3. a cross necklace 4. a running bib 5. my piano (Ok-a picture of it, getting heavy here)

Bummer about the 5K! I would be so sad if a race got cancelled on me. I get so excited for them!

Love the picture of you and the BF 🙂 And I’m totally jealous of your beach view!

    My 5 items:
-Pic of me and the BF
-My favorite race medal (ask me again after October 5th!! 🙂 )
-My library card: not only because I work at a library, but to represent my lifelong passion for reading and learning
-A notebook, for my love of writing
-A corn cob, to represent being born and raised in Iowa 😛

A corn cob! Haha that is so funny yet perfect!

I didn’t realize you worked at a library, that is really cool!

  3. Kristen @ Glitter and Dust

I can’t believe summer is almost over. So SO sad. At least the weather remains summerish for you. Soon I will be covering up in coats, pants, and boots. Ugh. I definitely would have chosen those items to represent you. For me it would be my husband, cat (Benny), Ironman 70.3 race bib and medal, Seahawks Jersey, and my travel journal.

I can’t wait to meet you in October! Our items are practically the same things which means we’re probably meant to be really good friends! 😀

  4. The running Schlub

Yeah summer is winding down, my early morning runs are darker and darker each week. My new plan is to hit the treadmill to avoid running the trails all winter. I almost stepped on a snake Saturday yikes!!

I would bring pictures of my family, golf club, running medal, and probably some pictures from some of my trail runs.

      YIKES!!! A snake!!

I treadmill run a lot more in the fall / winter too, but seems ironic since the weather becomes much more manageable! It’s just hard for me to get motivated to run outside in the dark. During the summer the promise of seeing the waves gets me down to the beach, but during the winter I miss out on that motivation!

PS: You haven’t blogged in forever!!!!! Just letting you know that I’ve noticed!

  5. Dannii @ Hungry Healthy Happy

Summer had totally disappeared from the UK. I am excited for Autumn though 🙂

Really??? I guess I should buy a jacket for my trip next month! Aside from a really lightweight running jacket that I wear when it’s raining out I don’t think I even own one! haha

  6. Megan @ Meg Go Run

WOW the one and only Adam pic I have ever seen on your blog! I love Cecil is in a cat picture frame. 🙂 I would have a picture of Paul and the cats for sure, something to represent running- maybe shoelaces or a race bib or medal, and then… my day planner because I am a PLANNER.

You use a day planner? Like a real physical one? Amazing! I always buy them and use them for about a week. I’m so bad about getting them updated. I mostly just rely on my Google Calendar. My LIFE is in that thing!

      1. Megan @ Meg Go Run

Yup, a real live day planner. I am so not technologically advanced. I went to Wal Mart to buy a book light and they didn’t have any. Everyone uses a Kindle now. I’m actually getting in iPad for my classroom this year and one of the high schoolers has to teach me how to use it and all the different things I can use it for in conjunction with my smartboard.

  7. Kim

I use BlogLovin and it has not been adding my posts for the last week – it is driving me crazy!!!
I would probably take my Nook, a picture of my 3 boys, my running shoes, a beach picture and my phone(s).

One of my cowokers chose his phone too, which I thought was kind of funny at first, but really our phones are such big parts of our lives! When I really think about it, my phone is practically one of my best friends! haha

  8. Courtney @RunningforCupcakes

I had a 5k get cancelled on me this summer too! It was so disappointing. I use Bloglovin’ not Feedly!

I’m extra bummed about it because now I don’t have a race before my marathon! Plus I was looking forward to using the 5K as part of my long-ish run this weekend. It would have been a fun way to get in a few of the miles to break up the monotony of running the same routes all the time!

  9. Jennifer

Bummer your 5K was cancelled, did they say why? Your cat picture is the cat frame is hilarious.

Yeah, the 5K was supposed to be on a new runway that is opening at our airport but apparently it’s not going to be ready in time 🙁 They are re-scheduling it for later in the year but they haven’t said when yet!

  10. Ali @ Hit the Ground Running

That sucks that the race was canceled! I bet with all your training you’d have killed a 5k!

I can’t wait to race a 5K this fall and see how it goes!

This one probably wouldn’t have been a PR since I was going to use it as my “fast finish” miles for part of a longer run. Mostly I was just looking forward to a break from my normal routes!

  11. Lou @ Running Through China

Never had a race cancelled before, that sucks! But is totally out of your control hey 🙂
Great items you chose, and was great to see a picture of you and Adam on here! (I am nosy lol…)
Hmmm, I would chose: my running shoes, some kind of Australian flag thing i.e. my Aussie singlet or Aussie sarong, a picture of my girl besty, boy besty, husband, puppy and family in UK, hmmm and an empty packet of dark chocolate and a wine bottle.

  12. Heather @ GirlGoesRunning

I have NEVER heard of a race being cancelled! That sucks. :S I’m also wondering where the summer went! I’m back to school super soon. 🙁 In my collection I’d definitely put running shoes, a Lola/Matt picture, and I’m actually not sure what else…lol. I need to think about it. I use Blogger so I’m not able to help with the Feedly issue.
