Whooo! Negative Splits During the Long Run!

This weekend I had my fastest 11-mile training run and it felt pretty easy!

I negative split the heck out of the run…. although that may have been thanks to the wind being at my back during the second half :).

(I’m getting faster guys! Before you know it all those miles will be in the 12s!)

Mile 11 was run on the treadmill because I miscalculated my route by a mile and I wanted to get into the gym and get a drink of water. Plus, I just didn’t feel like running circles around my block. I’m not a big fan of doing that, I like to have a destination I’m making my way towards.

Got caught here for a minute, of course.

I don’t remember getting caught at the drawbridge this much ever before!

I got a snap of the culprits … SAILBOATS. If I didn’t plan on being a sailboat owner someday I would totally talk trash about them here ;).

Oh well, it was a beautiful morning and stopping to enjoy the scenery (and to take a selfie) for a minute wasn’t all that bad.

In case you’re wondering, yes I do wear this top on every long run. It’s my favorite so of course I have to wear it during my longest run of the week.

But enough about me!

If you haven’t already checked out Meg’s best winter workout video you need to go watch it right now! I really 110% believe Meg’s videos are way better than Jillian Michaels!

One thing I love about Meg’s video is that she keeps it real and lets you know when things are about to suck and be hard! Being forewarned is nice ;).

… And before I go, I have to share a Cecil pic because it wouldn’t be my blog if I didn’t post a pic of him at least once every couple of days! He can fall asleep anywhere!

Hope you’re having a great Tuesday!

Are you increasing or decreasing mileage heading into the height of the holidays?

Congrats on the amazing trainig run! 😀
    That bridge hahah xD

Right now I’m just supposed to rest my legs.. Lame 🙁

    • December 2, 2014 / 5:00 pm

      Whaaat, not lame AT.ALL.

The week after my marathon I totally soaked up all the rest and extra time for stretching! You know what oddly made me feel so much better? On day 3 post-marathon I walked up a flight of stairs. At first it felt so bad, but then it felt so good! I have no idea why, but maybe try it in a couple days? haha 🙂

GREAT JOB!!! Negative splits are the best!!!! Your views are very gorgeous!! It would be nice to be able to run somewhere like that someday!! For now I have my corn fields though!!! I am trying to keep a solid base until I start my training cycle in a couple of weeks!!! I can’t believe its almost time to start spring training!!! CRAZY!

    • December 2, 2014 / 5:01 pm

Thank you!! I love your corn fields and crunchy leaves!

Mostly I can’t believe anyone trains for a spring race! haha Over here most long races wrap up at the end of Feb except for a 5K or two that happen in the spring!

  3. December 2, 2014 / 7:39 am

Woot woot negative splits! You are going to rock Miami!

    • December 2, 2014 / 5:02 pm

That’s the plan! I feel like each week I’m getting a little bit stronger without a lot more effort, so something’s happening! Hopefully on race day with a little extra oomph I’ll be able to rock the race!

  4. December 2, 2014 / 8:17 am

Omg thanks for the shout out! Better than Jillian? You are too kind. Congratulations on your fastest 11 miler! I wear the same clothes on runs too… especially in the winter. I have ONE pair of really warm pants, 2 really warm shirts, and 2 really warm vests. I wore the pants this morning and right now they are hanging on my spin bike drying for tomorrow… really gross, I know.

    • December 2, 2014 / 5:03 pm

      IT’S TRUE!

I don’t think that’s too gross at all. I totally think pants are reusable, especially if the weather is really cold. Sports bras on the other hand are not made for 2X usage before a wash, haha!

  5. December 2, 2014 / 8:39 am

Chopppppin the hair, increasing the mileageee, splitting those negatives….and it’s only Tuesday.

    • December 2, 2014 / 5:03 pm

Every single morning I wake up and marvel at the fact that I can blow dry and straighten my hair now in the span of 10 minutes! It’s brilliant! 🙂

  6. December 2, 2014 / 9:02 am

Nice job! It looks so warm there, I’m jealous!

I’m increasing mileage going into the holidays. I have a half marathon in January that I need to be in shape for, plus a 10K on NYE. I’ve been doing much lower mileage than I’m capable of since the marathon, and I can tell I’m undertraining.

    • December 2, 2014 / 5:05 pm

You’ll be building up to that marathon nicely though, a 10K and then a half before your next full! I bet taking these last few weeks easy will help a lot. Your legs will feel super fresh when you start hitting the training hard again!

  7. December 2, 2014 / 9:06 am

Those are the best runs, I feel so strong afterwards because basically you got stronger as the run went on instead of dying the while way through lol.

Man I wish I could fall asleep anywhere just like Cecil.

    • December 2, 2014 / 5:06 pm

Exactly! It’s so nice to finish a run feeling strong instead of totally dead!

I wish I could fall asleep anywhere too! I don’t understand why he didn’t get into the seat part and fell asleep on the armrest. I wish I could explain to him how much more comfortable he would be in the seat part! 🙂

  8. December 2, 2014 / 10:23 am

Great job on negative splits! You’re getting super speedy. Wow, you really do have crazy drawbridge luck lately.

I’m also increasing mileage as we head into the holidays – gotta start planning for this half marathon in March!

    • December 2, 2014 / 10:55 pm

      Thanks! 🙂

I hear ya, the Miami half marathon will be here in just a couple of months and I want to go all-in on that race! I saw on Twitter that you were looking for a training plan, have ypu picked one out yet?

  9. December 2, 2014 / 12:09 pm

Awesome job on that run!!! WooHoo for negative splits!
Chris would love to own a sailboat – I’m perfectly happy with our pontoon!!!
    Meg always has awesome workouts!!

    • December 2, 2014 / 10:56 pm

      Thank you! 🙂 🙂

I love pontoon boats too! I would be happy with either one!

      Meg’s awesome!

  10. December 2, 2014 / 12:41 pm

Beautiful negative splits! Isn’t it a fantastic feeling to know you’re getting faster?!

    • December 2, 2014 / 11:04 pm

It’s the best! It makes all the hard runs totally worth while! I love the payoff!

  11. December 2, 2014 / 1:41 pm

Awesome run! (I was just catching up–NEW FAMILY MEMBER! Can’t wait!
Seriously, the drawbridge. You are going to have nightmares about the drawbridge!

    • December 2, 2014 / 11:05 pm

Eeeeeek can’t wait to share more info about the new family member after all the details get sorted out! 🙂

  12. December 2, 2014 / 2:48 pm

Hi! I found your blog through HRG blog, and wanted to say hi 🙂 Woohoo for negative splits!! Such a good feeling to end a long run that way!

I’m increasing my mileage over the holidays too….next full marathon is at the end of February!

    • December 2, 2014 / 11:06 pm

Hi Jennifer! So glad you popped over!

I’m checking out your blog now! I love following along with runners training for marathons!!!! I can’t wait to get back at it next year! 🙂

      • December 4, 2014 / 10:59 am

I do too!! I love the running blog world and following along with each other!! Running is so individual, yet a team effort at the same time 🙂

        • December 4, 2014 / 5:53 pm

So true! That’s a great way to put it! I never thought about it that way before, but we’re totally our own little running team!

  13. December 2, 2014 / 8:35 pm

Look at mile 9! GO GIRL! You continue to impress me with how much you have improved. You’re a little running machine.

When you own a sailboat, will you please invite me to go sailing? ☺

I am currently decreasing mileage, aside from this upcoming Sunday. I have a feeling my mileage for the rest of December, after the marathon, is going to drop significantly. I need the break.

    • December 2, 2014 / 11:07 pm

Of course I will invite you to come sailing with me! 🙂

Trust me, I did not miss what happened at mile 9! That long run was really something because I think I only looked down at my Garmin 2 or 3 times, otherwise I just ran completely by feel. To see that my body *wanted* to speed up and did so without my mind needing to tell it to is really cool!

  14. December 3, 2014 / 11:18 am

WOOHOO! You are killing it. You are totally getting faster…whatever you’re doing is working! I suck at negative splitting…that’s another thing on my (long) list of running goals. How exciting is it to be able to say that an 11-mile run feels “easy?!” 😀

    • December 3, 2014 / 5:12 pm

It’s pretty crazy to say an 11-miler feels easy, but I remember during marathon training when that distance felt even easier. I’m excited to start building up a little more distance on my long runs again!
