I’ve been keeping some exciting news to myself for the past week: I’m officially running the Allstate Fort Lauderdale Half Marathon on November 10th!
This will be my first half marathon and it goes right through my neighborhood and then along Fort Lauderdale beach, so I can train on the actual course which is a nice benefit.
I’m so excited and the best part:
Someone is going to get to run this half marathon with me for FREE!
U.S. Road Sports, the team behind the Allstate 13.1 Race Series, is generously providing a free race entry for myself and one blog reader.
To my readers in South Florida, you know how gorgeous Fort Lauderdale beach is:

And to my readers outside of South Florida: it’s time to experience my beautiful, sunny city first hand!
According to the race website the average temperature on race day is between 62*F and 75*F – so in other words, absolutely perfect!
The race starts at 6:35am which is basically right when the sun rises in Fort Lauderdale. I often start my weekend runs at this time and I can tell you there is nothing like watching the sunrise over the beach.

While the race is mostly along the beach, this year the course has been modified to include more running along the Las Olas area (my neighborhood! whoot!) and Downtown Fort Lauderdale – including the Henry Kinney Tunnel. (see the course map)
Having run a 5K earlier this year that took me through the tunnel I can tell you first hand it is so much fun going through it!
Everyone yells and cheers and all you hear are the loud echoes of happy runners. It makes the somewhat steep incline feel less like death and more like fun!
This race is going to be awesome and I’m incredibly happy that it will be my first half! I really hope you’ll enter the contest to join me and earn some awesome race bling:

I’m making the entry process really easy:
Just leave a comment below telling me why you want to win the FREE entry.
On August 7th I’ll use a random number generator to pick a winner.
Let me know if you have any questions about the race, entering the giveaway or accommodations. I know many of my readers live outside of Fort Lauderdale and I would be happy to provide suggestions for hotels, restaurants and anything else you’re wondering about.
U.S. Road Sports has generously offered me free entry into the Allstate Fort Lauderdale half marathon in exchange for my posts about the race and hosting a reader giveaway. All comments and opinions are my own.
