I’m Back to Training

Screen shot 2013-08-06 at 9.04.48 PMSpeaking of the Allstate Fort Lauderdale half marathon I have resumed running and training. What I thought was a knee injury turned out to be sciatica which is something I can manage and train through.

Sciatica is a symptom of a problem with the sciatic nerve, the largest nerve in the body. It controls muscles in the back of your knee and lower leg and provides feeling to the back of your thigh, part of your lower leg and the sole of your foot.”

Sciatica symptoms become worse when you are sitting down, which is why I would wake up every morning feeling perfectly fine but after sitting at my desk for 8 hours my knee/leg would be hurting really bad.

The good news is running pretty much requires by its very nature that you aren’t in the sitting position so – voila! I’m back to running!

I’ll admit last night wasn’t my best run ever. After taking a full rest week my body was a little bit like WTF is going on, but I’m sure I’ll be back into the swing of things by the end of this week. I did an easy 45 minutes on the treadmill. I’m not sure of the exact mileage since my treadmill screen was broken and I couldn’t change the display to show distance.

While I was on my hiatus from running last week I successfully celebrated by 27th birthday! I met my mom up in Orlando for a girls weekend of shopping, eating and relaxing – which is pretty much the ideal way to spend your birthday if you ask me.

Now that my birthday is over, the year is basically over… dramatic but true. After my birthday I always feel like the rest of summer and fall fly by so fast!

What does your fall racing schedule look like?

Are you going to participate in any Turkey Trots or Jingle runs?

Sorry to hear about your injury, but I’m glad it’s something you’ll be able to manage! You’ll get back into the swing of things, for sure! My birthday is this Friday, BTW, so I know exactly what you mean about the year feeling like it’s “over!” Happy belated birthday! 😀

Thank you and happy early birthday! 🙂 It’s weird to think of August as starting the end of the year, but once we get into September I’m like “hey, it’s the holiday season, let’s hang some lights and tinsel!” haha

Glad you figured out the cause of the pain and it can be treated! You’ll be back to 100% in no time :o) I will probably do the Turkey Trot in my hometown if I’m recovered enough from my marathon by then. I can’t believe we’re talking about November races already! It’s only August!

      Haha, I think I’m jumping the gun because I have first-timer nerves/excitement!
