Yesterday I Tried to be Cool

The last couple of weeks I’ve avoided running at the beach so I wouldn’t have to dodge around the spring break crowds – but that’s officially over now!

I wanted to take a cool “selfie, but not a selfie” pic for the blog. During this ridiculous attempt I realized my shirt was on INSIDE OUT! Look at the seams! ??? I’m supposed to be an adult who can dress herself, right?!

Also, the pic is in B&W because my skin is not in good shape right now! It’s getting better but when I don’t have any concealer/foundation/powder on it’s super oily and has some red patches.  The first 29 years of my life I had a smooth and clear complexion and now it’s blowing up! THIS IS 30 HAPPENING TO ME!!!!??

(… still can’t believe my shirt is inside out in a pic that I thought was going to be super cool, so typical!)

If you remember, a couple of weeks ago I told you about the Convertible HDL (HD camera and headlamp combo) that was going to come out soon, well the kickstarter is now officially up!

The convertible will eventually retail for $299 but Kickstarter backers can secure one right now for only $149!

I love that it comes with an image stabilizing camera. If I was an adventure runner who frequently ran in many different beautiful places I would definitely get this to make cool videos!

I think it would be awesome if they made a small version that I could put on Cecil!

I’d love to see the world from his vantage point for just one day.

Of course, 99% of the day I’d just be looking at the inside of his eyelids as he sleeps… ??

Anyway, I’m just over 25% of the way done with the Hanson’s Base Builder plan and have a started a post with my thoughts on it so far. I’ve got that coming for you tomorrow since I know a few of you are interested!

Until then, enjoy your Wednesday!

Do you ever ask your friends or even strangers to take pics of you for your blog/instagram/facebook/etc?
Do you use the self timer on your phone to take pics?

I’m honestly trying to figure out how some runners get all of these cool mid-run photos for Instagram. I imagine they set up their camera/phones in a tree, set the self-timer, run past the camera with perfect form and then stop and check to see if the pic is good or if they need to do it again!

I actually love the thought of this and I’m sort of jealous because I don’t have anywhere safe to place my camera/phone mid-run! ; ) I would totally do it too! haha

When ever I see those posts on instagram I can’t help but wonder who has time for that during a run. Like do you do all that before you run? Or after? Because I’m not stopping during a run to take pictures. And after the run I am way more interested in finding some food and taking a shower. I’ve given up at this point; I’m never going to be one of the cool kids.

If it makes you feel better, when I woke up Monday morning I realized my pajama shirt was inside out. Though fortunately that embarrassment was limited to just my bedroom, not the beach 🙂

I always imagine they do it during or right after their warm up mile because they never look sweaty!

Hahaha pajama shirt mishap isn’t bad! I’ve done that before … several times! 😀

I don’t know how they get cool photos. Sometimes Frank bikes with me and will take a few photos for the blog, but they usually end up blurry (he isn’t the most patient photographer). I’ve definitely been teaching a yoga class only to realize that my shirt is inside out. So don’t feel uncool. It happens to all of us… although I am not really the definition of cool. 🙂

Hahaha I’m glad I’m not the only one wearing my clothing inside out! The bad part is I usually check to make sure I’m putting my shirt on the right way because I’ve done the inside out thing too many times in the past. I distinctly remember looking at the shirt and making sure the label was inside… and then I must have turned it inside out! I sabotaged myself!

I wore a shirt inside out to teach class once and one of my students pointed out the my tag was sticking out. I joked that it was part of a social experiment (I was teaching a psychology class after all) when really it was a lack of sleep and not enough coffee. Haha.

I use my GoPro to take a majority of my photos. Because I can’t preview them until I put the memory card in my computer, its the luck of the draw whether the pictures turn out well.

Hahaha that’s awesome! Way to make it work in your favor!

We have a GoPro and never use it because it doesn’t have a screen! Remember when no cameras had screens?!

I often wonder how they get those perfect photos as well! And how do they have TIME to do it??? Some people do it for every single run. I mean, I do wish I had cool photos of me from every run, but I guess I don’t wish it enough to actually put in the time and effort to capture them!

I am laughing sooooo hard because you and Cecil are in the same pose!!!

Hahahah when I was putting together this post I noticed we were both in the same pose too! I never stand and look up at the sky like that so I must have been subconsciously thinking about him in that pose when I decided to do it!

      • April 6, 2016 / 6:21 pm

Well you are both fabulous so it is the perfect pose to share.

I often wonder about the picture thing too. I am proud of myself if I even remember to have my phone on me…I am not a cool kid, so the selfie thing? Forget about it. I freeze up when I see a camera…

I would love to see someone setting up their camera for this type of mid-run picture! I often feel weird about taking selfies in public even though that’s a totally acceptable thing to do these days. I also feel weird vlogging in public, but that’s a totally different story, haha.

HAHA…wearing a shirt inside out is something I would do. I even did that at work a couple weeks ago with a cardi. I always wondered how people get those cool running shots on IG. I read somewhere that some people recommended putting it on video running it and then they select a still from it – too much work for me 😀

Really??? I never even thought about the video thing! Hmmm! I just don’t know where I’d place my phone/camera to get the footage. I guess I’d have to do it on a side street or somewhere not crowded and just go for it…. but I think I’d need a little stand or something to set the phone/camera in place….

      • April 7, 2016 / 10:32 am

Can I request a beach shot if you do it! Although, it is hard to run on the beach LOL..

SO HARD TO RUN ON THE SAND. Nothing makes my calves feel like they are on fire more! haha

  7. April 6, 2016 / 3:07 pm

Add me to the chorus of people who are clueless about all the perfect run photos on IG. From what I’ve gathered, they set a timer on their phone camera and run past it. But I feel like I’d have to do about 10 takes to get it right or get a pic where my form doesn’t look all warped. And then I would feel kind of ridiculous running past my phone a million times to get a pic when I’m supposed to be out running. I think we can all admit we do some pretty vain things for social media, but this alays struck me as over-the-top. Also, I run on city streets. If I tried to leave my phone anywhere and walk away from it, that sucker is as good as gone.

Yes me too! I was thinking my phone would get stolen or broken if I tried this out in public. Maybe if I stepped away to a side street.

I also think I would need to do multiple takes which would make me feel pretty ridiculous — all before I even get my run started (because I would def do it pre worm-up when I am less sweaty and my form is not wonky from being tired)! I guess the work pays off because they all have thousands of Instagram followers and a feed full of cool pics!

That’s funny about your shirt! I doubt anyone even noticed 😉

I’ve read on some runners blogs that they record a video of them running and then take a screenshot of the video to get the image they want. I know you can buy phone cases that have a little flip out stand on them so that your phone sits up on its own. I live by myself and honestly don’t really have time to take a bunch of perfect pictures of myself! That’s why my blog never has any, lol.
